Democratic Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is reportedly exploring the possibility of becoming a cable news pundit after his term expires in 2019.

Emanuel, who served as a congressman and as former President Barack Obama’s chief of staff, announced he won’t seek re-election in 2019 and has taken meeting with executives at CNN and MSNBC over the past several weeks, The Daily Beast reported Monday.

He is reportedly in talks to take on the role of a cable news pundit, sources familiar with the conversations told The Daily Beast.

Both networks declined to comment when The Daily Beast reached out for comment. (RELATED: Embattled Rahm Emanuel Not Running For Re-Election In Chicago)

Emanuel’s brother, Ari, is also in the television and entertainment business as a talent agent at William Morris Endeavor.

Emanuel’s director of communications Adam Collins said the mayor is focused on finishing out his time in office and will shift his focus to other things after he leaves his post.

“The mayor is focused on his job, and just today we sued eight online e-cigarette online retailers who are selling to minors, and cracked down on dozens of others,” Collins told The Daily Beast. “That’s what he’s devoting his time and energy to. He’ll turn his attention to post-mayoral opportunities when he’s done.”

Emanuel wouldn’t be the first politician to make the transition to cable news. Former Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah became a Fox News pundit after leaving office and Former GOP Rep. Charlie Dent appears frequently on CNN’s “New Day.”
